New Waterport Desalination Plant

Case Study 2023

Project Completion 2023

OWS Gibraltar were successful in being awarded the design, manufacture, and installation of a brand new 1,000m³/day reverse osmosis desalination system forAquaGib Ltd in Gibraltar

About the Plant

The Seawater Desalination System will provide high quality drinking water to residential, hotel and apartment complexes in Gibraltar. The system is in addition to the existing desalination system located on the rock, providing an extra 20% to the supply reservoirs.

Providing 1000 m³/day, the system utilises less than 3 kw/hr per m³ of permeate water produced. With a system recovery of 40%.

Oil & Water Supplies (Gibraltar) Limited continue to support this system and also the existing 5 associated desalination system to date.

The System Comprises the following

  • Multi Cyclone Seperators
  • Advanced Media Filtration with backwash system
  • Dosing systems for biocide dosing, antiscalant dosing, post mineralisation and sterilisation
  • Water storage tanks
  • Grundfos BMSX-ERI Energy Recovery System
  • RO membrane array consisting of 16 RO pressure vessels and 96 RO Membranes
  • Fully integrated Chemical CIP System
  • Final water storage tank and network distribution feed pumps
  • PLC & HMI Control Panel, for full automation.

Transportation & Installation

Following concept and design, the plant was manufactured in the UK and delicately shipped to its new location in Gibraltar for installation

Completion

Once all parts are in place, the team meticulously installs the system in its entirety, fine tuning the brand new technology, strenuous testing and training of operators
